Supporting Women and Young Girls in the World of Basketball

NY Knicks Coaches Convention, presented by HSS

What a powerful day it was, surrounded by changemakers, coaches, and leaders who are harnessing the transformative power of sport to create lasting impact.

This past weekend, I had the incredible honor of participating in the NY Knicks Coaches Convention. The event brought together some of the most passionate and visionary voices in basketball, all united by a shared mission: to use this sport as a vehicle for empowerment, equity, and community change.

I was privileged to share the stage with remarkable leaders like Batouly Camara M.S., founder of Women And Kids Empowerment; Nicole Breen, a driving force in NBA Youth Basketball Development; and Coach Ron Kelley of Nazareth Girls Basketball. Together, we engaged in a meaningful and candid conversation about how we can better support women and girls in basketball — a sport many of us love deeply.

Our discussion went beyond skills and drills. We explored how basketball can cultivate confidence, develop leadership, and foster equity. We talked about the importance of creating inclusive environments where every girl and woman feels seen, heard, and empowered to thrive. Because at the end of the day, the goal isn’t just to build better athletes — it’s to build stronger individuals and communities.

I am deeply grateful to the NY Knicks for creating a space where these crucial conversations can happen. It’s events like this that remind me why I do the work I do — pushing for a sports culture that reflects the values of inclusion, opportunity, and justice.

The road ahead is long, but with leaders and coaches committed to this vision, I’m confident we’re moving in the right direction.
