Mental Health in Girls Youth Sports

Nike - 50th Community Celebrations

Nike has long championed athletes who push boundaries—and during their 50th anniversary celebration, they did just that by spotlighting an often-overlooked part of youth sports: mental health.

I was honored to speak on a powerful panel titled “Mental Health in Girls Youth Sports,” where we gathered as community leaders to unpack the emotional landscape that so many young athletes navigate—often in silence.

For girls, the pressures of performance don’t just exist on the field. They’re compounded by body image, social dynamics, school stress, family expectations, and the ever-present weight of comparison in the digital age. When we talk about supporting girls in sport, we must talk about supporting their mental well-being—just as fiercely as we support their physical development.

This panel was more than just a conversation. It was a call to action: to build systems and cultures where mental health is not a luxury or afterthought, but a core pillar of coaching, programming, and community-building.

I left the session inspired by my fellow panelists—leaders who are reshaping what care and coaching can look like—and reinvigorated in our collective mission. The future of girls in sports is bright, but only if we continue to center the whole girl—mind, body, and spirit.

Thank you to Nike for using your platform to elevate this crucial dialogue—and for making space where our girls can be seen, heard, and wholly supported.
